TzAR: Pixel Art Profiles #3 – Manytle, Pinkyblu, PAMILO CEIRONE
Kyle Flemmer profiles three more pixel artists included in the forthcoming Tezos Art Review (TzAR): Pixel Art Anthology.
When I’m curating or writing about art, it’s easy to overthink and over-explain, to let my personal interpretations and agenda determine how I talk about a work. For example, throughout TzAR: Pixel Art Anthology I want to argue against the purity of pixel art as a medium and show how the pixel, as an element of composition, is used to various effect and in service to contradictory outcomes. Sometimes there is a lot to be said, and I do enjoy the process of unpacking and interpreting art, but usually the best thing to do is to step aside and let the artist work their magic directly on the viewer.
This is especially true when the art is joyful, whimsical, or just plain fun. Nothing sucks the fun out of an artwork more than over-intellectualizing it. Joy comes from the heart, not the head, and I can’t always explain why a work makes me feel good. Luckily, there is no real need for a reason; feeling good is more than enough to make an artwork special. Lightness and positivity are virtues in their own right and are very much needed in a world that feels increasingly polarized, tense, and serious.
“With that in mind, I have selected three artists for this edition of Pixel Art Profiles that consistently make me feel happy. I could talk for days about their skills and technical abilities, their collaborations and involvement in the Tezos art community, and all the reasons why they should be considered makers of fine art. Instead, let’s indulge in a bit of fun.”
