VAULTED Art Collector Profile #8 - Ida Belle

Vaulted is a series where prominent members and collectors in the Tezos ecosystem are interviewed and highlighted.

Vaulted #8 with collector Ida Belle

Beyond its technical foundation, Tezos has cultivated a culture of artistic experimentation and strong community engagement. Many of the best-known generative and crypto artists either started here or continue to participate because Tezos prioritizes creativity over speculation. The relationships between artists, collectors, and curators feel more personal and engaged compared to other platforms.
— Ida Belle

Aleksandra: Can you tell us how your collecting journey began?

Ida: Collecting beautiful and meaningful objects has been a longstanding tradition in my family. My grandfather amassed an extensive collection of tens of thousands of clocks, and I inherited a similar passion, particularly for antiques and rare books. In 2022, I expanded this interest to digital art on the blockchain. With a background in computer engineering, I developed a deep appreciation for generative art and quickly became deeply engaged with fx(hash). As my exploration continued, my collection grew beyond generative works to include a diverse range of pieces on Tezos and other blockchains.

Aleksandra: Can you share a story about acquiring one of your favorite pieces or any interesting moment in your collecting journey?

Ida: I had the privilege of witnessing Laurence Fuller and Vincent D’Onofrio perform ‘Sparrow’ live at the Tezos event in New York. A few days later, I won this magnificent piece at auction. Experiencing the performance in person made the artwork even more meaningful, turning it into a cherished part of my collection.

Aleksandra: What sets Art on Tezos apart in your eyes compared to other NFT ecosystems?

Ida: Art on Tezos stands out because it is a fully independent layer 1 blockchain, unlike many NFT ecosystems that rely on layer 2 solutions or sidechains. Despite being a layer 1, Tezos maintains low transaction costs, making it one of the most accessible chains for artists to mint and sell their work without the financial barriers seen on other networks. This combination of security, stability, and affordability gives it a unique advantage over ecosystems that compromise on decentralization or cost-efficiency.

Tezos has proven itself as a blockchain where art thrives not just as a market, but as a culture. Its ability to offer a decentralized, low-cost, and artist-friendly environment as a layer 1 sets it apart in the NFT space.

Aleksandra: Who are your three favorite artists/artworks on Tezos from your collection, and what makes their work stand out to you?

Ida: It is extremely difficult to pick just three, so I will bend the rules slightly. I’ll mention three generative artists, and then I will also add a few non-generative artists whose work I deeply admire.

Piter Pasma - Piter Pasma’s work is incredible because he creates such intricate and beautiful pieces with so little code. His ability to turn a few thousand characters into something that feels organic and full of depth is mind-blowing. His art has a perfect balance of precision and randomness, making it both technical and deeply expressive.

Jacek Markusiewicz - Jacek creates art that feels both precise and organic, as if it naturally grows from the code. His ability to build depth and atmosphere with carefully crafted rules is amazing, making each piece feel alive in its own way. His work is a perfect mix of technical skill and artistic intuition.

Kim Asendorf - Kim Asendorf is a true pioneer in digital art, pushing pixels and algorithms to their limits with a raw and expressive energy. His work is not just technical but deeply artistic, turning structured code into something alive and unpredictable. Monogrid is a perfect example, an exploration of pure pixel dynamics where every frame feels both calculated and organic. Few artists make code feel as dynamic and full of personality as he does.

Generative art has always been my main focus, but I have also had the privilege of collecting from incredible artists on Objkt. Goldcat, a master of emotion and atmosphere; Laurence Fuller, Web3’s greatest poet, actor, and AI artist; Yekta, a phenomenal dark surrealist; and No One Noise, an extraordinary artist whose work and philosophy deeply resonate with me.

Aleksandra: Which three emerging artists on Tezos do you think are worth keeping an eye on, and why?

Ida: Meysam Oliyaee, also known as Mr. Mo, is a graphic designer and artist who has been receiving increasing recognition. He was recently selected for the prestigious Opepen collection by Jack Butcher and has a few works available on Tezos.

Sophie Belle is a multidisciplinary artist best known for her acclaimed AI series Sous le Ciel and Ciel Infini, where she brings whimsical, dreamlike worlds to life, drawing inspiration from fairy tales and epic mythology. She has recently launched her work on Tezos as well.

Mohi is an exceptional geometric abstract artist whose work has been collected by Erick Calderon (Snowfro) of Art Blocks among other esteemed collectors.

I’m eager to see what these remarkable artists will contribute to the Tezos ecosystem in the coming years.

Finally, I want to take a moment to remember Shinnoak, an artist whose dark, evocative work left a lasting impact. He was not only one of my favorites but also one of the kindest souls I had the privilege of knowing. His passing in 2024 was a profound loss, but his art lives on through Tezos, where he found a home and a community he cherished.
